Nelson Mandela University Human Performance Complex

For many of our girls, visiting the Human Performance Complex at Nelson Mandela University was their first time in a high-performance facility. The experience was significant not only because of the specialised equipment available, but because they were treated as athletes whose potential is worth developing.

Through this collaboration, our players underwent structured fitness testing, received guidance on recovery, and attended sessions on injury prevention and strength training. These activities introduced them to standards of training and care that are often reserved for elite athletes, and they provided knowledge that the players can carry into their everyday routines.

The experience also influenced how the girls understood their place in sport. Being in an environment that prioritised their health and development reinforced that they belong in spaces of performance and learning. It showed them that their bodies and wellbeing are central to their growth, and that their aspirations deserve to be taken seriously.

This partnership demonstrates the value of institutions working with community initiatives in ways that are intentional and respectful. By opening its doors, the University is creating access to resources and expertise that had a direct impact on young athletes who would not otherwise have this opportunity.
